ART FOR COMMUNITY

We create and curate art for our communities.

We are a community rooted in acts of care. We share our ideas and create art as we learn together.

Bailiú is Irish. It means to flock together, gather, or collect. This community name is inspired by the way birds like starlings move together in unison. It was inspired by the book Emergent Strategy, by adrienne maree brown who shares this insight from nature (p.46):

The synchronized movement patterns of a starling flock is also called a murmuration. Guided by simple rules, starling murmurations can react to their environment as a group without a central leader orchestrating their choices; in any instant, any part of the flock can transform the movement of the whole flock. Collective leadership/partnership. Adaptability.

Nura Saleh founded Bailiú with some friends as a community art project. We were inspired by what we’ve been learning about creativity, self-care, and community support. This project is a way for us to share our learning journey with others. 

Nura is based in Tucson, Arizona and when she’s not immersing herself in art, she’s working on using Artificial Intelligence to educate and empower communities. The words we write for this project are being used to train Zaira, an AI agent that will be rooted in care and designed to help connect communities. No art work or written submissions will be used in this training without permission. This project is supported by The Origin Lab, a collective dedicated to making it easier to do good.

Each month, you will receive:

  • Inspiration from other members of the collective

  • Shared wisdom and knowledge

  • We ask ourselves: what actions can we take to help create a better world? Each month, we choose one action to reflect on together. Then we create art and share it with our communities. 

  • On the 1st, you’ll get a newsletter that includes art and insights about an act of care. We’ll reflect on it together and share what we learn. Then we use that knowledge and inspiration to create art for our communities.

  • We believe that if we’re there for each other and take these steps forward together, we can build a better world for our communities.

  • This project was developed by The Origin Lab, a collective dedicated to making it easier to do good. This community has been designed for people who are aligned with the following statements:
